Ortiz to play 10th season with Red Sox

David Ortiz will accept arbitration if he and his agent, Fern Cuza, can not come to terms on a multi-year deal with the Red Sox reports Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes (link, if you speak spanish). The move hardly comes as a surpirse as there was virtually zero interest in Ortiz for a multi-year deal on the market. Instead Ortiz will spend his 10th season as DH of the Boston Red Sox, settling into the middle of the order with Adrian Gonzalez and Kevin Youkilis.
In 9 prior seasons with the Red Sox Ortiz has hit 320 home runs and knocked in 1,028 runs. good for 5th and 6th, respectively, on the Sox all-time list. He has posted a .289/.387/.958 split as a member of the Red Sox. He was the 2004 ALCS M.V.P for the Red Sox and a two-time World Series winner. He will look to build on that resume and be part of the rebuilding process of the horrific September collpase of last year.
Cuza and the Red Sox are expected to try and work towards a multi-year deal up until the deadline.
