Rest In Peace Al Davis

Al Davis passed away this morning at the age of 82.  Davis was one of three surviving original AFL owners, along with the Bills’ Ralph Wilson and the Titans’ Bud Adams.  Davis was quirky but a revolutionary.  He put an emphasis on speed that has changed the game of football.  He was one of the first owners to start drafting kids from all-African American colleges.  He was against the AFL-NFL merger, instead wanting to go head to head with the NFL, but when he was eventually swayed he was instrumental in making the merger happen.  Al Davis’ cartoon character persona had made him the butt of many jokes over the years but sports truly needs more personalities like Al Davis in it.  He was involved in the running of his franchise right up until the day of his death.  Al Davis will truly be missed and I sincerely hope that the future owners in the NFL will be as colorful, personable, and influential as Al was.  Just Win, Baby.
